Refreshments to follow

Pianists Jesse Plessis and Bente Hansen have been active as a duo since 2008, and their first performance was heralded as “a splash of genius and a hint of improbability, duo pianists Bente Hansen and Jesse Plessis brought a wild sensibility to the Recital Hall … [and] masterfully demonstrated some of the most powerful music written during the last fifty years.”

In addition to their pianistic activities, they have collaborated as directors for productions of the musicals Grease, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Hair. The duo’s repertoire now includes standard works by Mozart, Brahms, Ravel, Gershwin and Tchaikovsky as well as many works by living composers and various self-made arrangements.

Hansen and Plessis are also ardent supporters and advocates of music by Canadian composers. Most recently they premiered a new version of Terry Riley’s A Rainbow in Curved Air for two pianos, and in August 2011, they will premiere a new arrangement by Plessis of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, the extremely popular album by The Beatles, alongside a new work by Marcel Bergmann written especially for the duo.
